Falls Creek Resort and Alpine National Park reopen to visitors from regional Victoria

Falls Creek Resort and Alpine National Park reopen to visitors from regional Victoria
September 22, 2020

Falls Creek Resort Management has announced the reopening of Falls Creek Resort and the Alpine National Park to visitors from regional Victoria - in time for school holidays.

Regional visitors are encouraged to visit, dine out and access the resort’s hiking and trails.

Falls Creek offers an extensive network of trails which cater to all fitness levels. These trails expose walkers to the beauty and majesty of the Bogong High Plains. Historic huts, snowgums and Mt Bogong itself are a constant reminder of the living spirit of the region.

There are a variety of walks to enjoy, from an easy 1/2-hour stroll with scenic vantage points to more challenging day or overnight hikes.

Falls Creek Resort Management Communications and Marketing Manager, Sarah Watt shared the community sentiment that businesses are excited to welcome tourists back to the area noting “due to the bushfires last summer, followed by COVID, many of the businesses at Falls Creek haven’t been fully operational since January.

“We encourage those who can, to come with an empty esky and dine out at one of Falls Creek’s delectable cafes and restaurants which have done their best to reopen.

“The resort is spectacular now, with lovely spring days, blossoming native flowers and plenty of walking trails to be explored. In fact, there is even a dusting of snow forecast this weekend, for those wishing to bring the family up for snow play. We recommend making a weekend of it and stay with one of our many accommodation providers. There are options suitable for all budgets.”

Resort Entry:

•Resort entry is now complimentary. Fees have been waived for the remainder of the declared snow season.

•While some restrictions have been eased, the resort is still required to operate under its COVIDSafe Plan. This requires all visitors to pre-register online through the Falls Creek website, print and display their dashboard pass while in the resort. Please click here to register your trip.

•All persons entering the resort are required to drive through Lane 1 of the Howman's Gap ticket box to enter the resort. The ticket box will continue to be staffed. Please stop and confirm your details with resort management personnel. This is to comply with DHHS regulations as well as the resort’s COVIDSafe Operating Plan

Restrictions:

Third Step restrictions will apply to anyone staying within the resort, these include:

•Public gatherings are allowed up to 10 people outdoors.

•Visitors to the home: "household bubble" 1 nominated household allowing up to 5 visitors from that household at a time.

•Restaurants and cafes can open under the outlined restrictions (see Premier's statement).

Other Important Information:

•The gate will remain shut at the Rocky Valley Dam wall until further notice, however visitors are welcome to walk or hike to areas beyond this point.

•Mountain bike trails are currently under maintenance in preparation for the green season. An announcement will be made about when these will open soon.

•There is no longer enough snow in resort to undertake any snow related activities other than snowplay. This is subject to the forecasted snowfall at the end of the week.

•A list of food and beverage operators that are open will be continually updated on the What’s on Guide.

•The Visitor Information Centre will now reopen from 9am - 5pm, 7 days a week, until the 4th of October.
