Facebook acquires VR fitness developer Supernatural
Continuing to expand its reach within the virtual reality sector, Meta - formerly known as Facebook - is reported to have acquired fitness developer Supernatural.
The new acquisition will see the VR fitness subscription service will completely integrated into Meta’s operations, with all staff members in the startup moving to roles in the multinational technology conglomerate.
With Supernatural providing services similar to those of Peloton, using VR to provide training sessions to those at home, Supernatural Chief Executive, Chris Milk who will also be joining Meta, advised that that the acquisition will give his firm “more resources to expand”.
Last year, Milk stated “our larger hope is that we can bring in a whole new type of audience into virtual reality that might not have been interested in it for the use case it has been promoted for thus far.”
Financial details of the deal have not been disclosed
The new acquisition follows Meta Chief Executive Mark Zuckerberg having earlier this week highlighted the role fitness will play within the expansion of its VR division during its Meta Connect conference.
The company will also be launching workout accessories created to be used in tandem with the Meta Quest headset sometime next year.
