Entry Fees to Rise at Hobart Aquatic Centre
Hobart City Council has this week decided to raise entry fees for adults, but not for children, at its Hobart Aquatic Centre (HAC).
Aldermen passed thousands of fees and charges in their annual review after examining them in recent months.
HAC fees had been a focus of debate because Hobart ratepayers alone must pay for the pool.
However, because the centre runs at a loss, Hobart ratepayers are effectively subsidising swimmers from across southern Tasmania who use the pool.
Last year, fees for adults and children rose slightly.
From July this year, the cost of an adult swim will rise from $6 to $6.90. The entry fee for a child will remain $4.50.
Pensioners will pay $4.50, a price set at three-quarters of the full fee.
A family, two adults and two children, will pay $20, up from $18.20.
The adult swim pass will be $65.55, up from $57, but a child's swim pass will remain at $42.75.
