Encouraging healthier lifestyles on Active Nation Day

Encouraging healthier lifestyles on Active Nation Day
September 28, 2012

Australians are being called on to take a collective step towards healthier lifestyles by embracing Active Nation Day on Sunday, 30th September 2012.

With a recent survey revealing that more than 53% of Australian do no formal exercise, Active Nation Day encourages all Australians to get moving and engage in physical activity.

Active Nation Day challenges Australians to let their actions do the talking and inspire their family, friends and co-workers to kick start healthier habits.

Part of active wear brand Lorna Jane's Move Nourish Believe (MNB) campaign, participants in Active Nation Day can record their movement on Lorna Jane's iPhone app that tracks users' runs, walks and cycles via GPS.

Since its launch last month, the app has already reached over 45,000 downloads, logged over 123,000 kilometres of distance covered and recorded over 140,000 minutes of activity. This equates to over 6,888,000 calories burned across the nation.

Lorna Jane founder and Chief Creative Officer Lorna Jane Clarkson (pictured) said she is passionate about encouraging the country to participate in Active Nation Day, stating "Active Nation Day is a priceless opportunity for all Australians to acknowledge the importance of living healthy and active lives.

"We want all Australians to get moving with their friends, families and pets, while contributing to the Lorna Jane iPhone app activity.

"This is the nation's chance to take their first step towards living their very best active lives." Once the user has completed each workout, they can visit microsite NOWMOVEIT.COM to track their movements and the progress of their friends and the nation, via an interactive map of Australia illustrating the country's activities.

Lorna Jane's Active Nation Day was catalysed by a study conducted with Roy Morgan Researchi exposing a shocking disconnect between Australian attitudes and actual behaviours towards leading a healthy lifestyle.

In a bid to make the nation's actions speak louder than words, Lorna Jane released the iPhone app to encourage Australians to move towards a healthy and active life.

Active Nation Day also links with Lorna Jane's women's empowerment MNB philosophy.
