Dubai launches a season of festivals and celebrations

Dubai launches a season of festivals and celebrations
May 1, 2014

The upcoming (northern hemisphere) summer with see Dubai offer visitors a packed calendar of entertainment, festivals and cultural celebrations.

Lasting from 15th June to 6th September, ‘Summer is Dubai 2014’ will burst with activities ranging from indoor family entertainment to fireworks lighting the famous skyline, shopping offers and surprises to an array of gastronomic experiences across the diverse menu of restaurants the Emirate has to offer.

Guaranteed sunshine, award-winning restaurants, world-class shopping and a huge variety of hotels make Dubai the ideal welcoming, exciting and unforgettable summer holiday destination. Further, with a wide range of offers from the city’s hotels, visitors can experience the famous Dubai luxury offering at surprisingly low prices.

Over recent years the Emirate has focused on ensuring that it becomes a destination of choice for families and in the city, on the coastline and in the desert, there is a multitude of activities, entertainment and experiences for parents and children to enjoy. The hugely popular Modhesh World - the best indoor family ‘edutainment’ destination in the Middle East - will open at the Dubai World Trade Centre from June-September and by visiting www.dubaicalendar.ae, visitors can find out the latest news on music, cultural and sports events taking place. Malls throughout the city are curating programmes of entertainment and families can experience snow in the desert at Ski Dubai; climb to the top of the world at Burj Khalifa; go under the sea at Dubai Aquarium; and swim with dolphins at Atlantis, The Palm, which is also running summer camps throughout the season. Visitors can also step back in time by visiting one of Dubai’s latest attractions – a 24.4 metre long, 7.6 metre high dinosaur skeleton, being exhibited at Dubai Mall.

For the more adventurous, Dubai offers a wealth of exhilarating options to get the adrenaline running, from sky diving to motor sports; sailing to water parks; and a number of exhibitions halls at Dubai World Trade Centre are turned into ‘Dubai Sports World’, where a wide range of sporting activities and facilities can be enjoyed. For holidaymakers who’d rather be in a Jacuzzi than on a water slide, the Emirate has a wide range of options when it comes to pampering and relaxing. With numerous world-class spas in luxury hotels there is no better place to put your feet up and unwind in tranquil surroundings with impeccable service.

Alongside the entertainment of ‘Summer is Dubai’, there will be several opportunities to get to the heart of Arabian culture. Ramadan in Dubai takes place from 29th June to 27th July and will showcase cultural activities reflecting the importance of the Islamic month including the Dubai International Holy Quran Award, Ramadan Forum and the Ramadan Tents, each of which will offer a separate hub dedicated to enlightening visitors on Islamic traditions. Year-on-year, visitors to Dubai remark on the unique experience of learning about a different culture and the welcoming spirit that the period of reflection inspires, and when night falls, friends – new and old alike – gather in tents under the stars for the Iftar feast.

To further experience culture in Dubai, visitors can explore and learn about local history at Dubai Museum and age-old traditions, such as henna and pearl diving, at Heritage Village; see falcons in flight on a desert safari; and discover a growing and colourful art scene in the various art galleries across the Emirate.

In the last two weeks of Ramadan leading up to Eid Al Fitr, shoppers will have the opportunity to participate in the ‘Eidiyat Dubai’ promotion to be in with the chance of winning some incredible prizes; and as Ramadan ends, Eid in Dubai begins, running from 28th July to 1st August and uniting local communities and people from different cultures in celebration of Eid Al Fitr. Among the highlights of Eid in Dubai will be musical concerts and activities for the entire family to enjoy together including theatrical shows and cartoon character performances throughout the malls.

As a grand and lengthy month-long finale to the season, the annual extravaganza Dubai Summer Surprises (DSS) will run from 2nd August to 5th September. The 17th edition of DSS will feature a number of world-class events and activities combined with fabulous promotions aimed at making shopping in one of the world’s retail capitals an even better experience.
