read moreDreamworld has launched its most daring animal experience, The White Lion Feed.
The Gold Coast theme park's brand new, highly interactive, exotic animal exhibit, The Lair, is set to open from 9th April. Included in the Dreamworld entry ticket, guests can come face-to-face with White Lion duo Jake and Mischka during this Easter holiday period, with glass walling that allows guests to literally walk alongside the big cats.
In addition, ten brave guests per day can step up the awe factor by taking part in the White Lion Feeding Experience. For only $25, guests can get their fingertips within 30 centimeters of the rare lions gnashing three inch long canine teeth, in order to feed them a hearty breakfast with just a pair of tongs.
Available to guests 13 years and older, the 20-minute session begins at 10am and includes an intimate briefing session with Dreamworld handlers to learn about the diet of a lion, its behavioural patterns, lion husbandry and of course, how to safely tong-feed the majestic animals.
One-by-one guests will ascend into the glass walled feeding tunnel which leads to a second storey feeding station. As the first guest ascends the lions will begin to anticipate their much desired morning meal, scaling a rock feature in the centre of their enclosure to leap into the glass feeding box.
In eagerness for their breakfast, Jake and Mischka will growl and snarl in the feeding box, as if to stake their territory and dominate their morsels of meat. Feeling the close proximity of their presence, participants will use a pair of tongs to pick up a large chunk of meat and feed the big cats through the safety of a mesh wall in the hope of subduing the lions.
The enclosure has been purpose built to allow guests viewing the feeding experience from ground floor to see all the action of the feed. On-lookers can wander underneath the second storey feeding box which has been built with a glass floor allowing perfect views of the feed just centimeters away. In some instances it will appear as if participants are inside the enclosure walls, however a mesh wall separates the guests from the 200kg cats.
As a gift to remember their experience, guests will be given a souvenir photograph of their White Lion Feeding Experience to take home.
Available five days a week, White Lion Feeding Experiences will run from 9th to 30th April (excluding Mondays and Fridays). The experience costs just $25 per person and is for a maximum of 10 people per day.
