Disney Considers Sydney Development
The Walt Disney Company has been considering the acquisition of a site on Sydney Harbour in order to develop a future attraction.
The NSW Government has confirmed Disney recently held discussions with the NSW Department of State and Regional Development about the redevelopment of a site at White Bay, adjacent to the Anzac Bridge.
Disney, which has 11 theme parks, eight resorts and a cruise line across three continents, was one of a number of unnamed companies that approached the NSW Government with unsolicited proposals for the site, the spokesman said.
A spokesman for Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, John Nicoletti, said his company was constantly exploring opportunities to grow, advising "as part of that process, we have conversations with lots of entities," Nicoletti stated, "and, while Australia is an attractive market, at this time we have no plans for this region."
White Bay, currently a working port, has been grouped with Glebe Island, Blackwattle Bay and Rozelle Bay as part of the Bays Precinct Taskforce. The NSW Government, which is phasing out all port activity within Sydney Harbour, is expected to release a development strategy for the Bays later this year.
