Destination Melbourne commits to World Tourism Day 2017
In advance of World Tourism Day 2017 and its theme ‘Sustainable Tourism – a Tool for Development’, Destination Melbourne is highlighting how its Visitability program aims to create a seamless and enjoyable visitor experience that also creates a positive impact on the destination’s economy, environment and community.
Being held on Wednesday 27th September, the purpose of World Tourism Day is to drive engagement in making the tourism industry a catalyst for positive change, and for tourism organisations to consider sustainability from multiple perspectives, including economic, social, environmental and cultural.
Destination Melbourne Chief Executive Laura Cavallo explains “Destination Melbourne believes, that taking responsibility for sustainable tourism contributes to the value of the visitor experience, and Melbourne’s status as a highly desirable destination for visitors from around the world, ultimately, making Melbourne more visitable.”
Working with the tourism industry, the Visitability program is focused on improving visitor services at every touch point of a visitor journey, in Melbourne and across Victoria. Like World Tourism Day, Visitability is also designed to be a catalyst for positive change, by working with businesses to improve their sense of welcome, technology, communication, inclusivity and transport networks.
Cavallo adds “this year’s theme for World Tourism Day marries well with the values of our Visitability program, and encourages industry leaders to consider the impact of our industry on our destination, plan for wise growth and enhance the visitor experience.”
Destination Melbourne recently launched a new video focused on Visitability, and will be using World Tourism Day as an opportunity to highlight the Visitability Program.
