Cricket NSW forms elite partnership with Sports High Schools Association

Cricket NSW forms elite partnership with Sports High Schools Association
November 21, 2016

Cricket New South Wales and The NSW Sports High Schools Association have announced the agreement of a ground-breaking partnership that will focus on enhancing the Cricket NSW High Performance Pathway, engaging and recruiting female athletes and continued investment in cricket infrastructure

Marking the first time that the entire association has formed a partnership with an elite sporting body, the partnership also aims to see cricket become the sport of choice for young male and female athletes.

Linked to its Cricket and Community Centre strategy to develop 26 first-class quality indoor training facilities at key cricket locations across NSW, Cricket NSW has also announced that the Gateshead-based Hunter Sports High School will be the location a new training facility that will offer four floodlit-undercover wickets from 2017.

Commenting on the partnership, Cricket NSW Chief Executive Andrew Jones stated “NSW sporting high schools have been a breeding ground for cricketers over many a year (and) on the back of the recent success of the Women’s Big Bash League and the Lendlease Breakers becoming fully professional, this partnership will have a strong focus on engaging female athletes.

“It will further align the high performance pathway for female cricketers within NSW.

“Infrastructure is an integral element of the partnership and Cricket NSW are delighted to have partnered with Hunter Sports High School to develop a covered training facility which will be ready early next year.

“The new four-lane floodlit training facility will support girls and boys all year round, and will be available to the local community outside of school hours.”

President of NSW Sports High Schools Association Roger Davis added “an important part of this partnership is the growth and consolidation of Girls’ Cricket.

“We see this as being paramount in the ongoing success of our programs and I know that all of the Sports High Schools are committed to making girls’ programs just as successful as our boys’ programs.

“Most importantly it is the holistic development of the student athlete where we put the needs of the student first, that is the key to our success. We develop the whole student, inclusive of their academic and welfare needs. This environment where we offer high quality coaching, an excellent education and a nurturing and supportive welfare system is deemed to be world’s best practice.”
