Cricket Australia cancels 3,000 scalped tickets for Perth Ashes Test

Cricket Australia cancels 3,000 scalped tickets for Perth Ashes Test
August 24, 2017

In a warning to ticket scalpers and resellers, Cricket Australia has cancelled almost 3,000 tickets for December’s Ashes Test in Perth.

The tickets, bought by scalpers and being sold on eBay and other resale websites at inflated prices, were cancelled by Cricket Australia and will be will be placed back on sale through its official channels next Monday.

In recovering the 2,890 tickets for the third of Australia’s five-Test series against England, Cricket Australia said its actions were a warning to scalpers.

Cricket Australia Executive General Manager, Events and Leagues, Anthony Everard stated “this is a very clear message to those who try to take advantage of the system and scalp tickets at inflated prices.

“We will identify and cancel tickets. Our message to all fans is to not support this practice.

“Whilst we understand this leads to disappointment with some days of our Tests sold out, you should only purchase from official ticket agencies to ensure you only pay the official prices.”

Everard said fans buying tickets from unauthorised resellers, such as eBay, Viagogo, Ticketmaster Resale and Gumtree, risked paying too much or being given invalid tickets.

He added “unfortunately we are unable to assist fans or verify any tickets purchased through resellers.”

Around 1,300 Ashes tickets were also cancelled in 2006 after an investigation revealed the tickets has been purchased by scalpers intending to sell them on at inflated prices.

Ticketmaster are the WACA's official ticketing agency.
