Countdown to June opening for new Wanaka aquatic centre
Queenstown Lakes District Council is anticipating that its new $12.28 million aquatic centre will be opened to the public in June.
Currently being built by Cook Brothers Construction, the new facility at Wanaka’s Three Parks is expected to be handed over to the Council on 31st May with a family fun scheduled to mark the opening on 10th June, after a short commissioning period.
Joined to the Wanaka Recreation Centre the new facilitu includes an eight-lane, 25-metre lap pool, a learners' pool and a spa pool.
During a recent media tour, Queenstown Lakes District Council Sport and Recreation Manager Simon Battrick advised "Wanaka has been looking forward to this for a long time.”
Once complete, the Council’s exisiting pool will be closed.
Once open the new facility is expected to employ around 10 pool staff in either full or part time roles.
