read moreThe City of Ballarat is encouraging more females to “step up to the plate” and take a swing at baseball as part of a new initiative.
The sessions, supported by the City of Ballarat, are designed to increase flexible participation opportunities for women and girls in what is a traditionally male-dominated sport, provide a safe and welcoming environment for women and girls to explore baseball, boost awareness of women and girls in sport and increase social connections between different groups of women and girls.
Alfredton Baseball Club is hosting four free female-only come and try training sessions, Girls at Bat, within the next month in a bid to attract more women and girls, aged 16 years and older, into baseball.
The City of Ballarat is supporting the sessions with resource support and promotional materials.
Girls at Bat is a direct action out of the City of Ballarat’s Active Women and Girls’ Strategy. The strategy aims to address the gender imbalance in sport. Initiatives, such as Girls at Bat, encourage more women to participate in sport and physical activities and re-shape stereotypes, support gender equity and empower participants.
The Sunday sessions will be held at Prince of Wales Reserve, Gillies Street, from 10am-12pm on 23rd February, 1st, 8th and 15th March.
