A breakfast event at the MCG has launched the 2024 Disability Sport and Recreation (DSR) CEO Wheelchair Challenge.
Held on Thursday morning (24th October) as part of Australia Sports Innovation Week (ASIW), the DSR CEO Wheelchair Challenge Breakfast kicked off Challenge Day with keynote speakers and the distribution of wheelchairs, training and safety instructions for the participants before they rolled out on to the streets of Melbourne or headed to their place of work.
The DSR CEO Wheelchair Challenge gives business and community leaders the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of people living with disabilities, by understanding the improvements needed for access and inclusion and raising vital funds.
In a statement, DSR advise that the event sees “chief executives, business and community leaders and principals spend a the day using a wheelchair in their workspace, to gain a better understanding of the day-to-day challenges of people living with disability may face and to experience first-hand how simple things may be incredibly difficult for someone with a disability, such as navigating into the office, getting to their desk or accessing facilities like bathrooms.”
Prior to the wheelchair rollout, the breakfast event was addressed by wheelchair rugby Paralympian and Olympic sport climber Campbell Harrison who shared stories of resilience, determination and excellence having returned from Paris 2024.
Earlier this month, Clublinks executives Anthony Lawrence, Anthony Edgar and Kate Klein - who took part in Friday’s Challenge - welcomed DSR Chied Executive Liz Tesone to Clublinks' head office to film a promotional video which included interviews piece with Lawrence and three-time Paralympian Andrew Harrison.
