Carisbrook Stadium demolition to be complete by Christmas
The final chapter in the story of Dunedin's Carisbrook Stadium is underway with the stadium being demolished and the site set to cleared by Christmas.
Demolition work of the former rugby and cricket ground began in June following the sale of the site to Otago construction company Calder Stewart.
The entire stadium, including its stands, have been demolised with only the Neville Street turnstile building currently being spared as the Dunedin City Council and the New Zealand Historic Places Trust continue to discuss a covenant to protect the category one-listed structure.
Calder Stewart bought the old stadium, replaced in recent years by the Forsyth Barr Stadium, from the Dunedin City Council in February for $3.3 million. It is believed to be planning to redevelop the site for industrial use.
