Caravan and Camping Industry Association appoints new Chief Executive

Caravan and Camping Industry Association appoints new Chief Executive
June 27, 2012

The Caravan and Camping Industry Association (CCIA) NSW has appointed Lyndel Gray as its new Chief Executive.

Announcing the appointment CCIA President, Theo Whitmont said Gray's outstanding industry experience, and proven track record of building industry capacity, was what inspired the organisation to engage her for this strategic leadership role.

Whitmont explained "the Board has an aggressive vision for the future of our Association, and Ms.Gray has the skills, insights, creativity and relationships that can help us realise our goal.

"Her past work is widely recognised for having delivered real value to the entire tourism industry and we are very pleased to have her join us to build on the success of the CCIA".

Gray led Tourism NSW from 2008-2011, consolidating the State's position as Australias top tourism destination, delivering significant growth in market share for holiday visitor numbers, nights and expenditure in both domestic and international markets.

Welcoming her appointment Gray stated "I am delighted to be joining the CCIA and to be leading the organisation in building the caravan and camping industry of the future.

"There are fantastic opportunities for growth and development. The creation of a successful business environment for all our members from across the accommodation, manufacturing and retailing sectors- will continue to be a key priority.

"This is an association with a powerful reputation and solid direction in a sector that plays a crucial role in the growth of tourism in New South Wales, particularly for Regional communities."

The caravan and camping sector delivers over 25% of the holiday nights in regional NSW and will continue to play an important role in the delivery of the States 2020 Visitor Economy goals. A significant contributor to this growth will be the increasing popularity of caravan and camping holidays, especially for the family market.

Gray concluded "we are also extremely well placed to benefit from the increasing leisure time of the fast growing baby boomer market.

"I look forward to engaging my wide industry networks in programs to achieve positive outcomes for the sector at such an exciting time of growth."

Previously Gray played an integral role in the transition of Tourism NSW to the newly formed Destination New South Wales, and has held the role of Executive Director, Tourism for the past year.
