Broome Success for LIWA Aquatics
The Leisure Institute of Western Australia (LIWA) Aquatics has just completed its 13th Annual North West Pool Managers seminar.
Held at the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre (BRAC), the seminar attracted 35 delegates (including delegates from Marble Bar, Exmouth and the Northern Territory) a remarkable number considering the distances in that part of the country.
Chris Mitchell, Vice President of Broome Shire opened the seminar, emphasising how important it was for the delegates to seize this opportunity to network and open some dialogue on shared issues and problems.
Presentations at the event included Recruiting and Retaining Staff from the YMCA's Rohan Gunton, an update on the very successful âSwim Through Life Program from Ash Crimmins and Chris Retallack of the YMCA in Port Headland while Deb Mills and the team from BRAC gave a run down and a tour of the Broome facility.
Other presentation came from John East on Project Management, Karin Kelly on the Code of Practice Working Group, and Royal Life Saving's Lauren Nimmo on Watch Around Water - a program in which 75 pools across Australia are participating.
Workshop sessions covered reading and understanding the Path Lab Water Test results, managing faecal contamination, and chemical handling while the LIWA Aquatics Seminar Dinner, sponsored by both LIWA Aquatics and Sigma Chemicals, provided a further networking opportunity.
LIWA Aquatics is now set to hold its 40th Annual Conference at the Esplanade Hotel, Fremantle on 10th and 11th August.
