The Shire of Broome is inviting residents to suggest the names of locals deserving of having a sporting pavilion or a basketball/netball court facility named in their honour.

Broome Shire President Graeme Campbell said the new facilities were to be named so the Shire was turning to the community for suggestions, stating "naming a building after a deserving member of the Broome community permanently preserves their contribution to our town in a memorable way.

"We are hoping to attract a wide range of suggestions from the community, but we do ask that submissions for the new pavilion at the Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre sports field and the outdoor sports courts at the Peter Haynes reserve are submitted separately."

When proposing a name for Shire assets which have a sports focus, it is recommended that Shire's selection criteria be followed and that the correct nomination form be used.

These can be downloaded from the Council's website or collected from the Shire Administration building, the Broome Library or Broome Recreation and Aquatic Centre (BRAC).

Entries close at 4pm on 21st April 2011 and suggestions will be referred to the Names Working Group for a recommendation to the Shire of Broome Council.
