Broadbeach gym manager dies in Gold Coast drowning incident

Broadbeach gym manager dies in Gold Coast drowning incident
February 5, 2021

The body of man drowned at Kurrawa Beach on the Gold Coast has been confirmed as Jake Jacobs, manager My Fitness Club Broadbeach.

32-year old Jacobs’ body was recovered from heavy seas late this afternoon following a search launched on Thursday after the body of a female friend was washed up not long after the pair had apparently entered the water.

The pair had reportedly gone for a late-night swim at Kurrawa Beach in Broadbeach.

Jacobs’ employer paid tribute to him in a Facebook post on Friday evening, advising “it is with great sadness that we mourn the tragic loss of our club manager Jake. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his friends and family at this time.

“He was instrumental in helping grow the awesome club that many of you call a second home. You will be missed mate.”

Originally from England, Jacobs had lived in Australia since 2018.

Gold Coast ocean conditions have been rough over recent days, with a hazardous surf warning currently for waves whipped up by ex-Cyclone Lucas in place.

The air, land and sea search involved the Rescue 500 helicopter and Queensland Police vessels and patrols along the beach.
