Breaking the mould in boxing fashion
Aiming to inspire women to stay fit through boxing, Red Corner wants to shift the focus of women’s boxing from a robust activity to a fun and empowering fitness activity by offering a customised gender fit range of products and introducing elements of fashion and colour.
In creating Red Corner, Director Michelle Walton saw an opportunity in the limited amount of quality, functional fitting boxing gear previously available for women.
As she explains “by making our gear both functional and funky, we knew more women would be inclined to give fitness boxing a go.”
After extensive product research, testing of materials and fit with female boxing partners, Red Corner was launched in October 2014 as the first boxing brand to offer customised gender fit and a product range to cater for all different skill levels.
With a team boasting over 25 years’ experience within the sporting goods industry, the Canberra-based company also saw an opportunity in catering for the young athlete market, mindful of a growing number of teenages taking up fitness boxing as a healthy outlet for burning energy, building balance and agility skills and having fun.
Taking the fashion fit concept even further during 2015, an additional range of weighted gloves, focus pads and punch mitts were developed with the aim of broadening appeal even further.
Walton adds “we have introduced fun, sublimated prints on a neoprene outer shell to launch the Silver Label Range.
“This range is fast gaining traction and enthusiastic feedback from a wider audience keen to include fitness boxing as part of their exercise routine.”
Breaking the estabslished mould for marketing fitness and sporting apparel, the team at Red Corner set out to showcase their products in a way, taking their range to the catwalk at the 2015 Canberra Fashion Show, the capital’s most prestigous fashion event, where the company’s products mixed among floating dresses and feathered hats.
Today, the company is offering an extensive range for women wanting to get fit, look great and feel empowered while training, designed by women to fit women.
Its range of innovative, fashion forward boxing gear is available in three different skill levels - Spar, Bout and Fight.
Red Corner also has a premium Silver Label Range for the fashionista, featuring on trend fashionable prints.
Walton concludes “we understand that women not only want quality, but want functional boxing gear which is suitable for all skill levels.
“We also understand that women want choice; the freedom to express themselves, their style and their individuality.”
