Professional theatre in Tasmania to benefit from new funding

Professional theatre in Tasmania to benefit from new funding
December 23, 2018

Following a competitive expert peer selection process, the one-off Tasmanian Theatre Fund will provide $400,000 in new funding to Blue Cow Theatre Inc. over two years.

The Tasmanian Government recognises the valuable contribution the State’s professional theatre sector makes to thriving cultural and creative industries.

This is in addition to more than $500,000 in government support that is already being provided to other Tasmanian theatre projects in 2019.

This new funding will enable the organisation to deliver a program of high-quality theatre productions, develop and engage with audiences across Tasmania, and provide employment and development opportunities for professional artists and arts workers.

Led by Artistic Director Robert Jarman, Blue Cow Theatre Inc. will deliver an exciting and diverse program across the State in 2019 and 2020, which will include works by Tasmanian playwrights, headed by Tasmanian directors.

The organisation will also continue its commitment to supporting Tasmanian artists and arts workers through its artist development program – with opportunities for young and emerging playwrights, and a sector forum focused on women in theatre on offer.

Applications were assessed independently by an expert panel of peers with the criteria including quality of program, key personnel, opportunities for employment of Tasmanians, and audience and partnership development.
