Blacktown City Council welcomes breastfeeding at its aquatic centres
Blacktown City Council has revealed that its aquatic centres are "proud" to be breastfeeding friendly facilities with them now being registered with the Australian Breastfeeding Association (ABA)'s Breastfeeding Welcome Here program.
The Breastfeeding Welcome Here program was developed to improve community acceptance of breastfeeding in public through the promotion of breastfeeding friendly facilities.
Advising that the Blacktown Leisure Centre Stanhope, Blacktown Aquatic Centre, Charlie Lowles Leisure Centre Emerton, Mount Druitt Pool and Riverstone Swimming Centre are part of the program, Blacktown City Mayor Stephen Bali MP said he was proud to be recognised as part of this program, noting "Blacktown City has always been accepting of mothers choosing to breastfeed their children in public.
“In order to be registered with the ABA a venue needs to promote a welcoming attitude from staff and management, be a smoke-free environment and also have room for pram access – all of which our aquatic and leisure centres offer."
Mothers can recognise a registered venue by looking for the Breastfeeding Welcome Here program sticker when out and about.
