The Shire of Mundaring’s Bilgoman Aquatic Centre has been certified as a Waterwise Aquatic Centre.

The Waterwise Aquatic Centre program is a joint task between the Water Corporation and the Leisure institute of WA Aquatics (LIWA Aquatics) to acknowledge aquatic and recreation centres’ commitment to saving water in their services.

The Bilgoman Aquatic Centre was endorsed as a Waterwise facility at a recent LIWA Aquatics event with Centre Manager Chris Blankley accepted the certificate.

Shire Chief Executive Jonathan Throssell said the endorsement was a great achievement, telling local newspaper the Hills Gazette “major works undertaken in 2014 have significantly reduced water consumption, while smaller works to reduce shower flow rates and irrigation have also had a positive impact on water use.”

To become an endorsed Waterwise centre, an audit of the Centre’s water use was conducted, highlighting many other areas of water saving, such as installation of dual-flush toilets.

The audit also identified potential for 1.84 million litres a year of water efficiency savings.

Throssell paid tribute to the Bilgoman Aquatic Centre’s dedicated staff, adding “it is fantastic to see employees at Bilgoman so dedicated to providing solutions and working towards reduced water usage.”
