With ticket data compiled from across the world, Pollstar's 2016 Year-End Rankings have Sydney's Qudos Bank Arena ranked 28th with 446,553 ticket sales, Perth Arena - 57th with 288,435 ticket sales, Brisbane Entertainment Centre - 65th with 243,106 ticket sales, and Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena - 71st with 227,270 ticket sales.
With the Pollstar chart listing the top 200 arenas for ticket sales, Sydney's Hordern Pavilion was ranked 109th (with 144,129 ticket sales), Auckland's Vector Arena - 112th with 141,102 ticket sales, Melbourne's Margaret Court Arena - 131st, with 111,576 ticket sales, Newcastle Entertainment Centre - 153rd with 88,811 ticket sales and Christchurch's Horncastle Arena - 190th with 58,551 ticket sales.
Significantly only one Asian venue - Shanghai's Mercedes-Benz Arena (ranked 11th) - features in the top 200 performing arenas.
Pollstar also advised that Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band, set to tour in Australia and New Zealand through late January and February, did the year’s biggest tour with a career best US$268.3 million in sales on 2.4 million tickets.
Beyoncé finished second at $256.2 million worldwide and 2.2 million tickets sold while Coldplay came in third at $241 million but sold an industry leading 2.7 million tickets.
Pollstar also advised that ticket prices continue to increase with US audiences now regularly paying more that US$100 per ticket – something Australian and New Zealand fans are already used to.
The largest single-act concert gross of the year was earned by Coldplay who grossed US$29.7 million gross from four shows in June at Wembley Stadium in London.
As for the performance of promoters, Live Nation continues to grow its global presence as it makes it easier for many tours to stop in countries where they might not have felt comfortable with just a local promoter.
The company reported sales of more than 44.3 million tickets. AEG also had a good year reporting 15.2 million tickets sold.
