Asia Pacific World Sport and Women Conference moves to Sydney
Following a successful first event in Melbourne in 2012, the 2014 Asia Pacific World Sport and Women (APWSW) Conference will be staged in Sydney this October.
To be held on 27th and 28th October 2014 at the Sydney Cricket Ground, event organisers have already confirmed Layne Beachley confirmed as a keynote speaker and that Michael Brown, Chief Executive of the AFC Asian Cup Australia 2015 Local Organising Committee, will be heading APWSW 2014 Advisory Board.
As keynote speaker, Layne Beachley has not only enjoyed a career as one of the world’s most successful sportspeople, but she currently serves on the board of Surfing Australia, is a member of the Sport Australia Hall Of Fame, Vice President of the International Surfing Association and is Director of her own charity, the Layne Beachley Aim For The Stars Foundation.
Commenting on Beachley’s involvement with the event, brown stated “we couldn’t think of a better keynote speaker than Layne.
“She has been a true pioneer for women in sport (and) her achievements are unprecedented and her drive and undeniable passion make her a superb role model for women wanting to achieve their sporting dreams.”
Dedicated to the advancement of women in sport, the APWSW Conference responds to growing industry and community demand to increase women’s involvement in sport across all levels. The 2014 conference will provide a platform to facilitate discussion on ways in which women can be attracted, engaged and retained in the business of sport.
The Conference is anticipated to bring together 600 representatives from international and national sports governing bodies, sporting associations, athletes, coaches, corporate partners and all practitioners in the sporting world, to discuss how to increase women’s involvement in the business of sport from grassroots participation to board level representation.
The Conference program will be developed and assessed by the APWSW 2014 Advisory Board. Formed by stakeholders from all major sporting sectors, the Advisory Board will ensure that the agenda demonstrates the importance of women as a core target market to secure the future of sport.
Brown adds “Australia has some of the best female athletes and administrators in the world, but they continue not to get the media attention or recognition they deserve.
“That’s why the Asia Pacific World Sport and Women Conference 2014 is important – to highlight the business of women in sport and to look at ways to increase women’s involvement at all levels.
“Having worked with top-notch women in the management of sport and with elite female athletes I’m proud to be helping drive change.”
The Conference is being organised by Informa Australia - the nation’s leading conference organiser and specialist trade publisher
