ASCTA takes back control of Swim Australia

ASCTA takes back control of Swim Australia
May 30, 2016

The Australian Swimming Coaches and Teachers Association (ASCTA) has taken back control of its Swim Australia brand and swim school network, having not renewed the contact of the network’s former manager Aussie Aquatics.

The change resulted from an independent review and an independent auditors report.

With Aussie Aquatics, headed by former ASCTA Chief Executive Ross Gage, having managed the Swim Australia program since 2001, the ending of the contact saw some acrimony between the organisations, believed to relate to intellectual property and database ownership.

However, a legal dispute between the parties was resolved last month with a brief statement on the ASCTA website explaining that, as of the end of April “ASCTA, Aussie Aquatics and Mr Ross Gage participated in a mediation.

“The outcome of the mediation was that all disputes between the parties have now been resolved.”

ASCTA’s direct management of Swim Australia from commercial offices located at Beerwah has seen Gary Toner appointed General Manager. Toner returns to Australia from the USA after 15 years with a broad range of experience in the aquatics industry,.

Toner is currently travelling to every capital city and many regional centres around Australia, visiting as many swim schools as possible to ascertain their needs and issues.

Swim Australia continues to be widely supported by the aquatics industry and has significant new programs and activities being rolled out in the coming months.

Since the split, Gage has been developing a new organiation for learn-to-swim operators, the Australian Swim School Association, which will likely be competing with Swim Australia.

Launched in 1997 by the ASCTA, Swim Australia boasts the country’s largest network of registered swim schools. Each year these swim schools conduct around 20 million lessons to approximately 600,000 swimming families.

Settlement conditions between ASCTA and Aussie Aquatics required both parties to make no comment beyond what was in the public domain.
