June 7, 2011

The Australian Swimming Coaches & Teachers Association (ASCTA) has released the Swim Australia Teacher of Learners with Disability (SAT LWD) course.

Conducting the first course in conjunction with the recent ASCTA Convention, primary course author Wendy Ross explains "this resource will give swimming and water safety teachers the knowledge and understanding of disability learn to swim and will assist Teachers in their journey to teach any person with a disability."

One of the attendees on the first course, Cook and Phillip Park Aquatic and Fitness Centre Aquababy Coordinator Tracey Ayton explained "the SAT LWD course is truly a 'stand out' course as it contains so much specific information and involves many 'hands on' scenarios.

"This course enhances Teachers understanding of teaching learners with a disability (and) is a very exciting and proactive.

"I congratulate ASCTA and Wendy Ross for making it available to the industry (and) look forward to presenting this course and sharing this knowledge with other Teachers so that learners with a disability receive a high standard of aquatic education."

Another attendee, Craig Tobin Aquatics Manager Lorraine Tobin, added "what a privilege it was to attend this very special course. The course content was comprehensive and diverse, and the delivery of the course was extremely practical.

"This is the most effective course I have attended in a number of years in aquatic instruction. If you want to expand your program and make it community inclusive then the Swim Australia Teacher of Learners with Disability course is a must for Every Swim Teacher."
