Aqua Jetty wins Western Australian award for best health and fitness program
The Living Longer Living Stronger program at Warnbro’s Aqua Jetty aquatic and recreation facility has been recognised by the Western Australian Government for its role in helping seniors get fit and active.
The facility received the Best Metropolitan Provider Award of Living Longer Living Stronger (LLLS) at a recent special ceremony, acknowledging its role in creating a friendly and inclusive atmosphere to help seniors get fit.
The national program, which targets people aged 50 years and over and focuses on social inclusion as well as physical needs such as balance and falls prevention, cognitive function and strength, aims to help combat the effects of Type 2 Diabetes, osteoporosis, arthritis, heart disease, sleep disorders and cancer therapy.
Aqua Jetty has invested in specialist equipment for resistance training among seniors, as well as qualified fitness staff dedicated to the needs of seniors.
Speaking to local media, LLLS State Manager Phil Airey said the centre had excelled at removing boundaries between seniors and regular fitness.
Airey attributed much of its success to lead instructor Jodie Moore and her team, stating “Aqua Jetty’s support and focus upon the needs of their seniors is exemplary.
“In a recent upgrade of gym equipment, centre management obtained push-pull machines specifically for their Living Longer Living Stronger resistance training classes.”
Moore has been supported by the Belgravia Leisure-managed facility in diversifying and creating new features in her classes, such as memory and balance work, while mentoring two new instructors to work with the expanding class sizes.
Airey added “each participant has a personalised resistance training program created for them that takes place in a fun group setting.
“In all aspects, Aqua Jetty’s Living Longer Living Stronger program sets the benchmark for welcoming new participants to exercise and retaining them in optimum conditions for their health - physical, social and mental.”
