The Northern Territory Government has awarded grants to 15 projects from a funding pool of $140,000 in recognition of the important role of men’s places.

The NT Government’s Men’s Places Grant Program aims to improve the health and emotional wellbeing of men, and encourage them to form community connections and support networks.

Alice Springs Town Council were awarded $10,000 for their  Men’s Wellbeing initiative at Alice Spring Aquatic Centre.

Other grants of up to $10,000 were awarded to:

• Red Centre Healing – Boss of Your Feelings ($9,990);
• Jupitur – Men’s Tabletop Gaming and Social Group ($4071);
• Barkly Regional Arts – De-escalation and Safety Training ($10,000);
• Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation – Piliyintinji-ki Men’s Camp  - Enhancing Aboriginal Men’s Wellbeing and Cultural Connection ($10,000);
• Pathfinders NT – The Rite Path: A Rites of Passage Journey for Young Men ($10,000);
• Jawoyn Association Aboriginal Corporation – Mangarrayi Men’s Wellbeing Camp On-Country ($10,000);
• Mamulbak – Men’s Place 2 ($10,000);
• Centahub - Champion Choices: Youth Leadership Development in Oenpelli ($10,000);
• Shadow Black – Black Rainbow’s Trans Trailblazers: Fostering Personal and Community Wellbeing ($10,000);
• Jipungwayi – Deadly Dads ($9,690);
• Carlo Ansaldo – Trans Men Wellbeing, Empowerment and Leadership Pilot ($9,129);
• David Garnham – The Choir of Man International Men’s Day Concert Series ($10,000);
• UMNT – Safe Heaven Men’s Den (9,200); and
• Darwin Indigenous Men’s Service Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Corporation – Men’s Shed Upgrades ($7,920).

NT Minister for Youth, Seniors and Equality Ngaree Ah Kit noted that the NT Government  “recognises the importance of creating safe spaces for men where they can feel supported, and form friendships and networks.

“Our Men’s Places Policy and Program focuses on community engagement; health and wellbeing; safety; economic security; and leadership and participation.

“Supporting programs and activities through men’s places is about developing healthy, inclusive communities across the Territory; and I’m sure these projects will offer valuable support to Territory men.”
