Health Schools Australia has introduced an Advanced Certificate in Nutrition (Weight Loss) for the health and fitness industry.

The innovative course is designed for managers, trainers and professional who want to implement fat loss, not weight loss programs in their gyms, spas, practices and pharmacies and wish to manage it themselves without the need to employ third parties such as nutritionists or dieticians.

Available via distance learning, the course differs from most calorie counted programs because it maintains adequate protein in the diet to ensure muscle mass is preserved, while fat loss occurs.

In promotional literature, Health Schools Australia state "the health and fitness industry is realising that burning fat is 80% nutritional - what we eat - and 20% exercise. Thus, the purpose of this course is to train health and fitness staff in the area of nutrition that centres on fat loss, as well as give them a better understanding of nutritional medicine.

"The goal is to offer those who chose to become nutritional coaches a far more holistic and integrated approach which will lead to better results and health outcomes for their clients. Adequate protein also ensures detoxification. The liver requires protein to detoxify the built up toxins that often accompany obesity. Fat cells store toxins and as the fat is being burnt the toxins are released. Adequate protein in the diet ensures these toxins are detoxified.

"This qualification is largely based on the 'hunter and gatherer' diet, eliminating 'fad' foods such as grains and sugars, which have only been in the diet a few thousand years and only a few hundred years in large quantities. If you restrict high carbohydrate foods, the body will then turn to stored fat to be burnt as fuel. The diet then focuses on consuming high amounts of vegetables, salads and non tropical fruits, which are obviously great for our health and wellness.
