Wyndham City’s Eagle Stadium is the largest indoor recreation facility in Melbourne’s West.
The Abilities Unleashed Program is an inclusive initiative designed to promote adaptive sports and recreational activities for individuals with disabilities and provides a valuable opportunity for participants to engage in physical activities and explore various sports programs tailored to their needs.
The Abilities Unleashed Program is a precursor to the much-anticipated 'Try-Para Sports' program, which aims to deliver community-focused events across Australia. These events will introduce Australians with disabilities to the exciting world of para-sports in a safe and welcoming environment, taking advantage of the growing enthusiasm surrounding these activities.
Paralympic Gold Medallist Matthew Haanappel, Aquatics and Community Participation Manager at WynActive emphasised the significance of such partnerships in nurturing a passion for sports among individuals with disabilities and potentially discovering the next generation of champion Paralympians.
Haanappel shared “all sporting careers and healthy active lifestyles start at a grassroots level, which is why developing and supporting community-based programs such as this are so important.”
The 'Try-Para Sports' events will take place across Australia in October and November 2024 and are open to individuals aged 10 and above.
Joining Disability Sports Australia in this effort, Wyndham City Council has been instrumental in supporting the Abilities Unleashed Program at Eagle Stadium, highlighting its ongoing commitment to fostering inclusive community initiatives. The collaboration with Wyndham City Council aids significantly in creating accessible sporting environments for all.
