24 Hour Treadmill Challenge for Very Special Kids raises more than $300,000
The recent 24 Hour Treadmill Challenge for Very Special Kids, supported by The Fitness Generation (TFG) and Fernwood Fitness, has raised more than $310,000 for charity work with families throughout the experience of caring for children with life threatening illnesses, from diagnosis through to recovery or bereavement.
Running on TRUE treadmills, participants travelled more than 5,500 kilometres, drank over 500 litres of water and played more than 450 songs.
Held on the grounds of Very Special Kids' offices and hospice in the Melbourne suburb of Malvern on 12th and 13th July, the event began with Magda Szubanksi starting the clock and dancing with mascot Pete the Pig.
Describing the event, TFG National Marketing & Communications Manager Andrew Cocks explained "during the subsequent 24 hours the energy and excitement that came out of the marquee for the whole 24 hours was amazing."
While all participants in the 24 Hour Treadmill Challenge contributed, major awards were presented to stand outs:
Highest Fundraiser Individual: Bruce Mathieson Jnr, $12,500
Highest Fundraising Team: ALH Group - Team Sabina, $29,223
Most Distance Covered by a Team: QBE Foundation, 235.11 kilometres
Most kilomteres Covered in 30 minutes - Male: Kevin Dixon, Essendon FC, 7.2 kilometres
Most kilomteres Covered in 30 minutes - Female: Suzanne Nottage, Bupa, 6.8 kilometres
Most kilomteres Covered Overall: Alex Petrou, 90.44 kilometres
Special mentions also go to:
Team Essendon FC ran 447.23 kilometres and raised $31,260 across two treadmills
Team APHS who collectively raised $23,491, with Cathie Reid raising an incredible $10,100.
