The Winners of the Australian Sport, Recreation and Play Innovation Awards have been announced at the National Sports Convention Networking Evening, with the Cockburn ARC (Aquatic and Recreation Centre) revealed as the Overall Winner across the Awards' six categories.

A statement from the organisers of the National Sports Convention advised "we would like to congratulate the winners in each category for their outstanding achievements and contributions to the industry."

The Category Winners are:

Cumberland Council - 2018 World Traditional Games, NSW

Sports Surfaces Award
Botanic Gardens and Centennial Parklands - Centennial Parkland Sports Centre Upgrade, NSW

Technological Solutions and Products Award
Sportility - Sponsorship and Affordable Sports Uniforms, NSW

Playground Design and Development Award
Early Education Inc - Tumbalong Lights Inclusive Playground, NSW

Marketing and Communications Award
VicHealth - This Girl Can Victoria

Facility Design and Development Award
City of Cockburn - Design and development of Cockburn ARC

A key part of the ever expanding National Sports Convention, the Innovation Awards aim at recognising and celebrating Innovation that has promoted and encouraged more people to play, recreate and participate in sport.

As National Sports Convention convenor, Martin Sheppard explains “as an industry sector, we all acknowledge that there is a need to encourage more people to be active and provide them with opportunities to play, recreate, keep fit, and participate at all levels.

“Over the past few years we have seen the growth of new programs, events and more accessible facilities but little growth in formal participation numbers in physical activity in Australia."
