2/3 of Fitness Clubs Run at a Loss

2/3 of Fitness Clubs Run at a Loss
August 9, 2010

Fitness club marketing expert Amanda Bracks has told Australasian Leisure Management that "that only a third of health clubs in Australia are making profit" adding that âif you are not in this group the Health Club Business Summit can help on to this path, or continue along your path if you are succeeding."

Bracks' declaration of fitness/health club performance is based upon Fitness Australia's 2008 Fitness Industry Profile, but she feels that her own experience shows that fitness clubs don't have to perform that way.

Bracks (pictured above) recalls, "15 years ago I entered the health club industry selling memberships and changing people's lives.

"Within the year I was managing health clubs and making a massive impact on membership growth increasing my first club from 1,800 to over 4,500 members and from 40 personal training session to over 200 per week. The thrill of seeing members achieve their goals just continually fuelled my passion to get on the phone and ring more people, make more appointments and help people get involved on their own health and fitness journey.

"I have been sharing the secretes of my success to many people all over the country for the past ten years and now it's all I do. Changing Lives, the book I wrote to help membership consultants and business owners has sold over one thousand copies. To walk my talk and show people that âit can be doneâ I even got on the phone in a club on Tuesday and booked 16 appointments within two hours and they were from two year old lead box slips. It can be done and easily!"

Last year, along with entrepreneur and health club expert Curtis Mock; and Chris Batchelor - Vice President and Operating Partner of Vitality Marketing Group, a leading marketing, consulting and promotional firm in the fitness industry; Amanda took her message on the road, presenting the Health Club Business Summit.

This month, the Health Club Business Summit returns â being held in Sydney on Monday 23rd August and Tuesday 24th August; and in Melbourne on Wednesday 25th August.

The summits; which are aimed at owners, managers, sales team, marketing team, receptionists and personal trainers; aims to share cutting edge, proven, and profitable methods for building rock solid club businesses and creating true wealth.

Sessions at the event include:

Marketing: Curtis Mock - Cutting edge marketing techniques to get you an immediate result;
Sales: Amanda Bracks - Turning your sales team into a bunch of superstars;
Trends: Chris Batchelor - The Future of the Fitness Business; and an
Open Panel Discussion where Chris, Curtis and Amanda will answer questions to help managers immediately implement systems into their centres.

Introducing the event, Bracks explains that "our focus is to teach attendees practical, proven and profitable strategies for their health club helping them learn strategies that they can implement and that will have an immediate and direct effect on your bottom line."

The Sydney Health Club Business Summit will be held at The Lane Cove Club, Birdwood Avenue, Lane Cove and the Melbourne event at the Riverside Golf Club, Newsome Street, Ascot Vale.
