A total of 61 sports and organisations have now committed to Australia’s High Performance 2032+ Sport Strategy (HP 2032+ Strategy), with all current Olympic, Paralympic and Commonwealth Games sports making the pledge to win well.
Launched in December 2022, the HP 2032+ Sport Strategy is Australian sport’s roadmap for sustainable success in the leadup to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and beyond.
Central to the strategy is the commitment to win well, which is philosophy that how you win is just as important as when you win, and that wellbeing is the foundation for an athlete reaching their full potential in sport and in life.
Matti Clements, ASC Executive General Manager of AIS Performance and Chair of the HP 2032+ Strategy Horizon 1 Leadership Group, said the new members shows that Australian sport is more united than ever before.
Clements noted “we know that for our athletes and coaches to be world best, they need an environment that allows them to thrive in sport and in life and that’s what the commitment to win well is all about.
“Australia is leading the world when it comes to acknowledging that wellbeing is the key to sustainable success and I look forward to continuing to work with our partners in sport to make sure our athletes and coaches have what they need to win well in the lead up to Brisbane 2032 and beyond.”
ASC supplied the following comments from various sports on their commitment to win well:
Nick Hockley, Cricket Australia Chief Executive
“Cricket Australia is delighted to have cricket part of the Olympic program in Los Angeles 2028 and by the prospect of the Australian teams playing in front of a home crowd in Brisbane 2032 and are pleased to commit to the Win Well HP 2032+ Sport Strategy.”
Wade Kelly, American Football Australia Chief Executive
“Having been a professional athlete and Coach, I know how vital it is to be supported by an environment that allows you to thrive both in sport and in life. Collectively embracing the Win Well initiative, driven by the Australian Sports Commission, further holds everyone accountable to ensure those environments exist, which is fantastic.”
Felicity Wilkeson, Blind Sports Australia Chief Executive
“Blind Sports Australia fully supports the Win Well Pledge as we recognise wellbeing as the cornerstone in supporting blind and vision impaired athletes on their journey to win well. By working together with our member organisations, we strive to create clear athlete pathways, and ensure well-being is an integral part of our inclusive high performance culture where athletes thrive both on and off the playing field.”
Bronwyn Thompson, Handball Australia Chief Executive
“Handball Australia is committed to Win Well’s strategy of ambitious performance balanced with our athlete and management wellbeing focus, as we all work to build sustainable success and inspire. We congratulate the Australian Sports Commission and the Australian Institute of Sport on leading this initiative and are proud to be collaborating to realise the vision for our athletes, sport and Australia.”
Davide Wheeler, Australian Fencing Federation President
"The Australian Fencing Federation is thrilled to commit to the Win Well Pledge! This initiative represents our commitment to not just excellence in sport but also to fostering a vibrant, inclusive community where athletes can thrive. Together, we look forward to shaping a brighter future for fencing in Australia."
Abbie Burgess-Brice, Lacrosse Australia Chair
"Lacrosse Australia is proud to show its commitment to the Win Well HP 2032+ Strategy, a progressive and unified vision for inclusive, sustainable, and high-performing sport in Australia. As we edge closer to our sport’s return to the Olympics we believe fostering athlete development, leading with integrity, and delivering exceptional performance when it matters most is essential. This is an exciting and important step forward for lacrosse and our broader sporting community."
Modern Pentathlon Australia
“Modern Pentathlon Australia acknowledges that by prioritising the physical, mental, emotional and cultural wellbeing of all our athletes, coaches and staff, we will Win Well and Play Well at all levels leading into LA 2028 and Brisbane 2032.”
Philip Goebel, Sport Climbing Australia
"Sport Climbing Australia is proud to make the Win Well pledge along with our sport sector partners and peers. Climbers have long held beliefs that the way we achieve athletic excellence matters just as much as the athletic achievement itself. This belief goes back to our roots in outdoor rock climbing and mountaineering where the 'style' of how the ascent was done was just as important as reaching the summit. The core values of the Win Well Strategy of excellence, belonging, courage and connection strongly resonate among the climbing community in Australia and Sport Climbing Australia will strive to live those values through all our high performance endeavours."
Chris Nay, Wheelchair Rugby Australia Chief Executive
“Wheelchair Rugby Australia looks forward to working alongside the Australian Sports Commission and the Australian Institute of Sport in its commitment to inspire Australians to Win Well. Wheelchair rugby in Australia has a proud and successful history, and this commitment will provide the platform for us to strengthen the systems and people needed to continue this success into the future through the Win Well Strategy. We are thankful for their immense contribution to wheelchair rugby.”
