The Australian Museums and Galleries Association (AMaGA) will hold its annual conference in Ballarat for the first time in September.

Up to 700 people are expected to attend the conference held by Australia's peak body for the museums and galleries sector.

Set to run from 17th to 20th September, the conference is expected the event will contribute more than $1.15 million to the Ballarat economy, with local accommodation and hospitality businesses to benefit greatly.

Final locations for the conference are yet to be finalised, but are expected to include the Civic Hall, The Goods Shed, Mining Exchange, The Art Gallery of Ballarat and the Ballaarat Mechanic Institute.

The AMaGA National Conference represents a cornerstone of the Association's professional development calendar, offering the largest annual forum for Australian museum and gallery professionals to engage in networking and knowledge exchange.
