AUCKLAND TENDERS PT ERIN POOL
05-02-2010

AQUATICS - RECREATION - TENDERS - DEVELOPMENT
Auckland City Council is calling for interested parties keen to be involved in the redevelopment of Pt Erin Pool.
The Council is looking to undertake a public-private project (PPP) to enhance the facility so it can operate all year round.
Built in 1962, the facility is one of council’s two exclusively outdoor pools. Given the seasonal nature of its operation, the facility currently provides minimal programming and does not have a strong engagement to the surrounding local community.
The council hopes that new services will deliver the key activities of health, fitness, learning and play.
Revitalising public interest and establishing a strong connection with the local community remains a key priority of the redevelopment.
Councillor Greg Moyle, chairperson of the Arts, Culture and Recreation Committee says, “the aim is to create a facility where everyone, and in particular children, obtain basic water skills and confidence while improving their fitness and having fun and enjoyment all year round.”
The Council is requesting expressions of interest from the private sector to gauge interest in redeveloping and operating the facility. Initial cost assessments indicate that a total of $8 to $12 million is required to complete the redevelopment to meet the council’s minimum requirements for this project.
This project is proposed to the market as a long-term management agreement or a design, build, finance and operate agreement for up to 30 years.
Interested parties can contact Doug Moffet on 09 379 2020 for a copy of the EOI documents. If the EOI process shows potential to proceed with a public/private partnership, the council will then undertake public consultation on the proposal.
The expression of interest period opened on 2nd February 2010 and closes on 5th March 2010.
